  Nerf Invades Westwood Studios!
Posted Friday, September 29, 2000

With those long hours the Red Alert 2 team has been working about to pay off, a few Westwood employees felt is was time to take a break and conduct an office wide event. Yesterday morning employees entered the building and found 4,800 Nerf balls scattered everywhere! To make the day even more exciting, a company wide announcement was made that three of the Nerf balls contained numbers and once found could be exchanged for prizes. Soon after people were scouring the halls and various cubicles; congrats to Graham Smallwood (Software Engineer), Chris Bauer (Designer), and Tim Campbell (also a Designer) on finding those elusive sphere's. These guys sure know how to have a great time! Check out the attached pictures to see all the fun. We'll keep everyone posted as the mayhem continues...

Red Alert 2 Collector's Edition Update!
Posted Thursday, September 28, 2000

Until now the Red Alert 2 Collector's edition pewter figurines have been shrouded in mystery. Many fans have asked what are they? What do they look like? Well, Westwood has just received these images back from the manufacturing plant and by popular demand have posted them for your viewing pleasure.

The first image represents a Soviet Tesla Trooper and the second represents an Allied Chrono Legionnaire. Both are considered very powerful units within the game.

If you haven't ordered your copy of the Red Alert 2 Collector's Edition head over to the Westwood online store now!Click here!

THEY LIKE IT; THEY REALLY LIKE IT
Posted Monday, September 25, 2000

Welcome to Monday! Most Mondays, we’re not exactly the cheerful bunch we are today. After all, the RA2 dev team hasn’t seen a full two-day weekend since the last millennium, and the other Westwoodians have to actually cease playing RA2 and get back to work

But today, there is rejoicing. First off, the very first magazine review in the UK is out. PCGamer gave RA2 a 92 out of 100 and an editor’s award. (Just in case you were wondering, the UK magazines review beta code, while the U.S. magazines will mostly only review boxed code. Not just gold code, but only discs that come from inside a shrink wrapped box. There are a few exceptions here and there, but that’s the way it is here in the States.)

Anyway, speaking of the States, we had a great event last week and a few of the hands-on reports are starting to go up on the web. Here are the first four links we spotted and some pictures…

Those are good reading for a Monday afternoon. And those aren’t all. We’re hoping to have all the links about the event up tomorrow. Meanwhile, back to playing RA2, uh, I mean working.

RED ALERT 2 TO SHIP OCTOBER 24!
Posted Tuesday, September 5, 2000

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a great three-day weekend. We do know how tough it is going back to work, so here’s something to brighten your Tuesday.

We are making it official. Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 will ship on October 24. That means it will show up on store shelves between October 25 and 28.

So, don’t believe the rumors and don’t believe cynical journalists who are about as psychic as the crooks peddling 1-900 psychic lines.

What is predicable is RA2 selling out at some stores on day one. It happened with T-Sun, and a lot of people weren’t able to buy copies when they wanted. The answer to that is to go to your local software store and reserve a copy. You can pre-order it, or you can put your name on a “call list,” which means they’ll call you when the game is on sale. They’ll even hold it for you for a day or so. Electronics Boutique, Software Etc, and Babbage’s all have pre-sell and call-list programs.

Kari Wuher in the Studio today!
Posted Friday, September 1, 2000

Just a quick note to say we have Hollywood babe Kari Wuher (numerous film credits) in the Studio shooting for some marketing stuff for Red Alert 2.

(This event is over. Thanks to everyone that stopped by to visit!)
